A Message from the President

Yujiro Maeda
President

Senzoku Gakuen began in November 1923, when its founder, Ms. Wakao Maeda, opened the second floor of her home as a private school. In September of that year, the Great Kanto Earthquake occurred, and Ms. Wakao took the first step as a private school to help female students who were affected by the disaster learn how to survive. Based on the founding spirit of “keep your dreams lofty, but be humble in your actions”, Senzoku Gakuen College of Music has been boldly taking on challenges with innovative ideas even in the turbulent world situation, and providing education that enables students to become independent, and striving to nurture talented individuals who can serve and give back to society.

As we celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2024, I believe that our founding spirit and educational philosophy have not faded away, even as times change, and remain a beacon to which we should always aspire. As globalization progresses and the world becomes closer, issues in other countries can have complex effects and become challenges for Japan. As civilization develops, we are exposed to a greater variety of music from different eras, but we are forced to adapt to a wide range of knowledge and new technologies. Social conditions change rapidly day by day, there are no absolute values, and we are faced with many problems for which we do not know the correct answers. We will continue to face the unstable and uncertain times, but remembering the founding spirit of our founder, keeping your dreams lofty, but being humble in your actions, we will move forward one step at a time.

Senzoku Gakuen College of Music provides an educational environment that enables you to learn what you need to survive in the future society. We offer a curriculum that allows you to maximize your interests and make your own choices, a student life where you can engage in friendly competition with students from various backgrounds and accomplishments, practical teaching from faculty members who are active on the front lines, and numerous venues where you can express and demonstrate what you have learned. We hope that you will not be afraid of failure, and that you will challenge yourself and gain a great deal of experience at our college. All you need to do is just to have courage and just take the first step. All of our faculty and staff are sincerely committed to supporting the growth and development of our students.
