A Message from the President

Yujiro Maeda
President

Senzoku Gakuen began in November 1923, when its founder, Ms. Wakao Maeda, opened the second floor of her home as a private school. In September of that year, the Great Kanto Earthquake occurred, and Ms. Wakao took the first step as a private school to help female students who were affected by the disaster learn how to survive. Based on the founding spirit of “keep your dreams lofty, but be humble in your actions”, Senzoku Gakuen College of Music has been boldly taking on challenges with innovative ideas even in the turbulent world situation, and providing education that enables students to become independent, and striving to nurture talented individuals who can serve and give back to society.

As we celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2024, I believe that our founding spirit and educational philosophy have not faded away, even as times change, and remain a beacon to which we should always aspire. As globalization progresses and the world becomes closer, issues in other countries can have complex effects and become challenges for Japan. As civilization develops, we are exposed to a greater variety of music from different eras, but we are forced to adapt to a wide range of knowledge and new technologies. Social conditions change rapidly day by day, there are no absolute values, and we are faced with many problems for which we do not know the correct answers. We will continue to face the unstable and uncertain times, but remembering the founding spirit of our founder, keeping your dreams lofty, but being humble in your actions, we will move forward one step at a time.

Senzoku Gakuen College of Music provides an educational environment that enables you to learn what you need to survive in the future society. We offer a curriculum that allows you to maximize your interests and make your own choices, a student life where you can engage in friendly competition with students from various backgrounds and accomplishments, practical teaching from faculty members who are active on the front lines, and numerous venues where you can express and demonstrate what you have learned. We hope that you will not be afraid of failure, and that you will challenge yourself and gain a great deal of experience at our college. All you need to do is just to have courage and just take the first step. All of our faculty and staff are sincerely committed to supporting the growth and development of our students.

A Message from the Dean

Yoko Ebara
Dean

We now live in an era where we are instantly connected to the rest of the world. While various events in this world are moving forward as fast as an arrow, all of our college’s courses are involved in music, which is said to be “the art of time”.
Those who perform, those who talk, those who express themselves physically, those who express visually, and those who try to make the performers shine even brighter. Students from all walks of life spend their days learning, worrying, and rejoicing about what music and the performing arts are all about. It is truly a joy and a pleasure to see students working together in creative activities. In this context, there will be both confrontations over serious discussions and surprises to be noticed. However, the sense of accomplishment in creating a stage or a work of art is transformed into an incomparable joy. It is an unforgettable and moving experience. It is this experience that we will treasure.
So, what exactly is “the joy of music”? Each of us may feel differently, but if we are able to devote ourselves to achieving the expression we are aiming for and deliver it, that is definitely a great joy. Music always accompanies us, encourages us, and leads us into new worlds. It is a great emotional force for us. Let’s explore the art related to music, which has been a part of our lives since ancient times, here at Senzoku Gakuen. Let’s share real emotions together. Then, let’s pass on this inspiring experience to the next generation.

— Tomorrow than today, and beyond than tomorrow —

I hope that you will renew yourself day by day with friends who share the same goal. I would like you to polish your music until you are convinced that the music you play and the expression you give will someday reach someone and move their heart. And someday, we will be able to put ourselves in the music without being conscious of it, just as if we were breathing it, I am sure that our encounter at Senzoku Gakuen will be meaningful, and we will be friends for a long time to come.
